About

The campus opened in 1998 as the first foreign university campus in Malaysia, starting with 417 students according to a Monash article. Its site says the current campus was completed in 2007 and has about 9,700 students from 77 countries (undated figure on that page); the same Monash article cites over 9,000. Teaching is in English and the university is listed in the MQA Malaysian Qualifications Register.

Location

The campus is in Sunway City, Selangor, on the edge of Kuala Lumpur. The site mentions a planned Kuala Lumpur campus in 2032.

Admission requirements

Bachelor's

We did not read each programme's academic entry page in detail. The application fee is RM 100. Check each programme page on the official site for accepted Saudi and Gulf qualifications.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate admission rules were not verified. The English page gives the same IELTS 6.5 for most coursework master's programmes, with exceptions. Check each programme page.

English language requirements

IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall for undergraduate and postgraduate coursework (6.0 per band for most); Human Nutrition, Biotechnology and Clinical Psychology need 6.5 in listening, reading and speaking; Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine 7.0 overall; Diploma of Business 5.5. TOEFL iBT has two scales: for tests before 21 January 2026 the total is 79 (79-94 for nutrition/medical), after that the page uses a 1-6 scale (4 for most degrees). PTE Academic 58 overall. Results are valid for 3 years. Duolingo is not listed on the page we read.

Fees and cost of living

2026 international undergraduate tuition per year in RM: Arts and Social Sciences 49,920; Business and Commerce 51,840; Actuarial Analytics 54,720; Computer Science 54,720 (Honours 54,240); Engineering 64,800; Science 60,480; Human Nutrition 60,480; Pharmacy (Honours) 71,040; Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine 138,720. Other fees: application RM 100, registration RM 200, general amenities RM 100 per semester. The site notes a 6% service tax for international students from 1 July 2025. Postgraduate fees were not verified.

Application deadlines

The dates we read are for Monash English 2026 only: August intake (20 weeks) international deadline 5 June 2026; October intake (10 weeks) 21 August 2026. Undergraduate and master's deadlines were not verified; check the official intake-periods page.

Scholarships and financial aid

Merit awards listed for current students, most open to international applicants: Monash High Achiever Award RM 10,000 a year; Pharmacy Excellence 50% or 25% tuition waiver for four years (separate application, deadline 31 January); Female in Engineering RM 6,000 for first year. Most awards are automatic on application. Confirm current terms on the official page.

International students

The site cites students from 77 countries. Per the intake page, the student visa application must be submitted before lectures begin; visas go through the government EMGS system. We did not read the list of authorised agents in the Gulf.

Campus life and housing

Nearby residences run by Sunway: Waterfront Residence, Sun-U Residence and Sun-U Apartment, with single and shared rooms within walking distance. No prices were on the page; contact the residence office.
